1986年4月26日凌晨1點23分，烏克蘭普里比亞特鄰近的車諾比核電廠第四號反應爐發生爆炸。毫無預警的車諾比核爆，讓普里比亞特這個原本有著大好遠景的城市，就此成為荒土。

一直到核爆後的第二天，政府才意識到核災的嚴重性，因而將這座城鎮裡的近五萬居民進行撤離。當中有許多人並沒有意識到，他們永遠無法再回到這片他們稱之為家園的地方。而這座城市裡的一切，也就靜止在居民撤離的那一剎那。靜靜的，彷彿等待著居民們再次回到這片土地，繼續生活。

近30年後， 來自奧地利維也納的攝影師Roland Verant來到這片荒廢之地，試圖探究當時人們撤離後，遺留下了什麼帶不走的回憶。並用相機記錄下，那三十年仍未期盼到人們回歸的城市的那份漫長等待。

雖然這座城市仍然處於未開放狀態，但是仍有不少冒險者前來記錄核災過後的情景，以及街頭塗鴉者來到這裡創作。
